The village of Špania Dolina, which original name is Herrengrund (720m), is situated in the Low Tatras nature reserve and is famous as a historical mining village. .pania Dolina, due to its unique architecture, was designated a folk architecture monument in 1979. Špania Dolina is a hiking paradise for families and nature-lovers. In its centre there is a tennis court and a volleyball playground which can be also used for beach volleyball. For those who like horse-riding there is a ridingschool. For mountain-bikers there are good facilities and the village is a good staring point for trips to the nearby Low Tatras. In winter you can make use of the nearby skiing and cross-country skiing centres. Slovakia is famous for its spas with healing and hot springs which you can find in this area too. We recommend you a trip to Banská Bystrica (11km) with its historical centre and a lot of shops and restaurants in reconstructed historical buildings.
